Choosing the St.George Complete Freedom account and its accompanying Visa Debit card, you will be able to use your own money as you buy stuff online and in person, while also enjoying access to fee-free ATM withdrawals across Australia and overseas.
What’s great?
Weighing up what the St.George Complete Freedom Debit Card has to offer? It's time to take a closer look at some of the features we think may appeal to you.
Save on Fees
Who doesn’t want to save on fees? With the St.George Complete Freedom account, enjoy $0 monthly account-keeping fee. While this may not seem like a huge saving, it’s nice to be able to save small amounts here and there, as they all add up over time.
Using your St.George Complete Freedom Debit Card, you can also save on ATM withdrawal fees. When you withdraw cash at any major Australian bank’s ATM, or overseas within the Global Alliance network, you will pay no ATM withdrawal fee (although other fees may apply).
Stay Secure
Using the St.George Complete Freedom Debit Card, you can benefit from all the security features you would expect from a debit card, including chip and PIN and fraud monitoring. St.George also offers peace of mind in its fraud money back guarantee, providing you a 100% refund of any money taken from your account if you should be a victim of fraud.
Global Access
As a Visa Debit card, you know that the St.George Complete Freedom Debit Card allows you easy access to your own money, no matter where in the world you happen to be. Whether that means shopping online, setting up a subscription service, or paying for stuff at the checkout, you can do all of that and more, using your own funds for each transaction.
And with the Global Alliance network on hand, you can also withdraw cash at ATMs around the world, whenever you need it.
Utilise Apple Pay
Want to pay with Apple Pay? With the St.George Complete Freedom Debit Card, you can add your card to your Apple Pay digital wallet, giving you access to all the functionality that provides. Leave your wallet at home to tap and pay with your smartphone or smartwatch when you’re out and about, and checkout faster when you shop online – Apple Pay gives you all that and more.
Manage Your Funds
As an award-winning app, the St.George mobile banking app also has plenty to offer. Obviously, it provides access to all the basics, such as tracking your incomings and outgoings in real time, and transferring funds between your accounts and others, but it also has these features to take advantage of as well.
- Card Lock: This feature allows you to temporarily lock your card should you happen to misplace it. You can lock your card for up to 15 days, giving you plenty of time to look for it, or order a new one if you know it’s gone for good.
- Spend Tracker: With this feature, you can work on managing your money more effectively. By grouping all your transactions into categories, it allows you to see where you spend your money, so you can make changes where needed to budget better over the long and short term.
- Quick Balance: Allowing you to check your balance at a glance on your smartphone or smartwatch, this feature lets you see how much you’ve got available to spend, which can further your efforts to budget.
- Beem It App: Using this app, you can link your St.George Complete Freedom Debit Card to then pay or get paid by anyone, anytime, securely and in real time.
What’s worth considering?
Directing your paycheck into your account should allow you to avoid paying monthly fees. In terms of other fees, understand that accessing ATM withdrawals outside of Australia’s major banks or the Global Alliance network overseas will incur a $5 fee. You will also pay a 3% foreign currency conversion fee on any transaction made in a foreign currency, whether that’s in person while travelling overseas, on online with international retailers.
Why should you choose it?
The St.George Complete Freedom account, paired with its Visa Debit card, makes everyday banking easy and convenient, allowing you to access your money anytime, anywhere. You can take advantage of further money-saving on ATM withdrawals, plus useful features such as those offered on its mobile banking app and mobile payments.

September 2, 2024Have the terms of service been changed to deny lottery purchases with this debit card. Until 31 August 2024 lottery purchases were able to be made with this debit card, and since 1 September 2024 the vendor says this card does not support those transaction types. When was StGeorge going to advise customers they do not want this business?
admin
September 20, 2024Hi Mark, I haven’t seen anything about this but I do know many banks now have a “gambling block” option that you can toggle on and off. St.George has this option, which you can find when you log in online and go to “Card settings”. If that doesn’t work, I’d suggest calling St.George to see what they say. Thanks Mark!

February 13, 2024what’s the limit for online payments within Australia?
admin
February 14, 2024Hi Hedda, St,George says the daily limit is $25,000, but you can apply for a higher limit if you like.

February 6, 2024Hi
I have a complete freedom account in my name only. Does St George allow for my partner to be added to the account so it is a joint account ?
Thank you
admin
February 7, 2024Hi Sonia, normally you can’t add another person to an existing debit account. St.George has a clause that says you can authorise someone to use the account on your behalf, but it’s up to St.George if they will accept your request. More than likely, you’ll need to open a new account under both of your names. Thanks Sonia!

August 31, 2023Will regular direct debits still be taken out of a Complete Freedom account if it’s locked for 15 days?
admin
September 5, 2023Hi Helen, yes direct debits still come out as they’re linked to your BSB and account number, and not your physical card. There are a lot of answers on the St.George FAQ page that might be helpful!

August 31, 2023If you lock a Complete Freedom card for 15 days, does that block regular payments like an age pension?
admin
September 5, 2023Hi Helen, St.George’s site says “Yes, you will still receive all of your payments during this time”. Card lock only stops you (or someone else) from tapping your card to buy things. Thanks Helen!
Chris
July 29, 2023I have a debit card in my name only on my Freedom Bank account. Can I also get a debit card for my wife on the account ( not a joint card)
admin
August 1, 2023Hi Chris, transaction accounts don’t usually let you add another cardholder whose name isn’t on the account. St.George says you can authorise someone to use the account on your behalf, but it’s up to St.George if they will accept your request. It may be easier to open a joint account so you both have the same control. All the best Chris!
Summer
February 25, 2023Can I buy things online still if I’m 14?
admin
February 28, 2023Hi Summer, yes you can! St.George Complete Freedom account allows cardholders who are 14 years old or over and have an Australian residential address to access their own money with a Visa debit card that can be used for online purchases.
