With the HSBC Day to Day Account Debit Card, you can benefit from all the features offered on the HSBC Day to Day Account, with no monthly fees and no minimum deposit. In terms of extras, you can take advantage of mobile payments using Apple Pay and Google Pay, Visa security and payment basics, and exclusive travel and shopping offers with the home&Away Privilege Program.
What’s great?
Time to take a closer look at those features, so you can find out whether they will work for you.
No Monthly Fee
One of the key attractions of the HSBC Day to Day Account and its accompanying Visa Debit card is the fact that it charges no monthly fees. You don’t have to worry about depositing a certain amount each month to benefit, it’s just no monthly fees, all the time.
Fee-Free ATM Access
Want to withdraw cash? You can use all HSBC ATMs in Australia for free, as well as any other ATMs offering fee-free access.
Global Use
No matter where you are in the world, you can use the HSBC Day to Day Account Debit Card to pay using your own money. Whether that means picking up the essentials at the servo on your way to work, buying flights online for your dream holiday, or setting up a new streaming subscription service so you can binge your favourite shows, your debit card can make it happen.
Mobile Payments
Allowing you to sync your card to Apple Pay and Google Pay, the HSBC Day to Day Account is great for those who want to be able to leave their wallet at home, to enjoy a streamlined checkout when paying with their device.
Visa Features
As this is a Visa Debit card, you can benefit from the various features Visa offers on its cards as standard. Some highlights include being able to set up recurring payments to cover bills, using contactless payments at the checkout via Visa payWave, and protection in the event of fraud thanks to Visa’s Zero Liability policy.
Offers & Privileges
As an HSBC accountholder, you will have access to an exclusive range of shopping offers at more than 1,500 carefully selected Australian retailers. Plus, you will also have the opportunity to take advantage of special privileges at more than 27,000 outlets worldwide with the home&Away Privilege Program.
Easy Switch
One of the most time consuming – and perhaps off-putting – sides to opening a new transaction account is the admin that goes with it. You have to remember every recurring payment that is direct debited from your old account, to then contact each merchant to switch over to the new account. If you miss any, and close the old account, you face dishonour fees and a potential hit to your credit.
Not so with HSBC though. When you open an HSBC Day to Day Account, HSBC can help you switch over all your regular direct debits and direct credits from your previous bank accounts to your new account. No need to contact your employer, your gym, your childcare provider, your utility company – and all the rest. HSBC does it for you.
What’s worth considering?
While it’s always great to save with no monthly fees, there are other fees and charges to be aware of with the HSBC Day to Day Account. As we mentioned, you can enjoy fee-free ATM access at HSBC ATMs, but you may be charged outside that network. If you use an ATM overseas, for example, you will pay an Overseas ATM Withdrawal Fee $4.50 plus an Overseas Transaction Fee of 3%.
Why should you choose it?
If you are looking to save on monthly fees – without having to worry about depositing a certain amount into the account each month – the HSBC Day to Day Account and accompanying Visa Debit card could be for you. Compatibility with Apple Pay and Google Pay is handy for those who want to sync their card to their mobile wallet, and Easy Switch should take the pain out of switching accounts.

October 27, 2013what does it mean “Zero liability protection against unauthorised transactions”?
Leann
January 29, 2014Hi Ann, Zero Liability is Visa’s policy that protects the cardholder from any fraudulent charges or unauthorised transactions made with your card or account details. The system reviews your monthly account statement and report fraudulent charges to HSBC so they can take quick action when it happens. That is, your financial institution is required to extend provisional credit for losses from unauthorised card use within 5 business days of notification of the loss.
