Visa debit cards come with a number of NAB accounts but there is still a few steps to go through before you get the card in your hand.
The main everyday transaction accounts from NAB all come with debit cards, so anyone with a Classic Banking or Retirement account will also be issued with a Visa option.
Most banks in Australia will advise customers of a 5-10 working day wait between applying for a debit card and receiving it, but NAB says it should only take 3-5 days for people to receive their cards.
I haven’t banked with NAB before
People new to NAB will first need to apply for one of the eligible accounts, which can be done quickly online, over the phone or in a branch.
Once one of the transaction accounts has been applied for, it will need to be processed and approved. Then the “Welcome Pack” will be sent from NAB and received within 5-7 working days.
Once you’ve received your card you can then add it to your digital wallet if you want.
NAB also gives people the option of getting their card in the mail or picking it up from a nominated branch, so you can decide which would be the most convenient and safe choice for your situation.
I haven’t got my card yet!
Unfortunately there may be delays in processing a card application if further details need to be verified, but the following tips should help speed up the process:
- Have all your personal details ready when you apply
- Decide prior to applying where you want the debit card sent; and
- Keep a range of identification documents/items on hand
New NAB customers will need to pass standard ID checks before an application can move forward, which means even if you apply online you may need to provide a few more pieces of ID (Passport, Medicare, Utility bill) to prove you can get the account in order and receive a Visa debit card.
While it should only take 3-5 working days to get an NAB Visa debit card for one of your accounts, being aware of the other conditions will help you avoid delays so that you can start using the card as soon as possible.

August 20, 20202 questions
Can I change to a joint bank account from my account.
Can my husband get a visa debit card too ?
admin
September 15, 2020Hi Yuen, its probably easier just to setup a joint account with him. Then both of you get the Visa Debit Card. Then you can keep your personal account open or choose to close it.

August 11, 2020My name is yuen netz, I am an existing customer. I have just applied for a visa debit card costing $10 a month.
How do i go about to get another card for my husband, he does not have a nab debit card. We have a joint nab account.

August 12, 2020Hi Yuen, You can attach a second NAB Visa Debit card to your account at no extra charge. This lets a second person access the account with their own card. You can request additional NAB Visa Debit cards in person at any NAB branch. As the primary accountholder, you’re responsible for every transaction on the account, regardless of the card used.
