The Bankwest Student debit card account is an option that gives people studying a chance to get more out of banking.
Not only does this account come with a MasterCard debit card in a choice of black or pink, but also charges no monthly fees and has unlimited free withdrawals.
But the biggest difference to other student accounts and fee free accounts like Citibank’s Plus is that it is also linked to Student Edge so that you can access great discounts without needing a separate Student Edge membership card.
Student Edge Debit Card Benefits
Student Edge offers state-based benefits for students, including the following offers:
- $10.50 tickets at Hoyts cinemas
- A free medium-sized drinks at McDonald’s
- $50 off flights booked at STA Travel; and
- Up to 12% off selected Apple products
These offers may change seasonally, but there are hundreds of potential ways for students to save on everyday products and events.
There is also regular competitions and other useful information available on the Student Edge website, so it can be really worthwhile to sign up.
While most of these offers require you to show your membership card, with a Bankwest Student debit card, you do not even need to worry about that. All you have to do is show your card and you will get the same benefits.
Bankwest Debit Card Costs
This account is almost completely fee-free, but there are still some exceptions. While ATM withdrawals made within the Bankwest and Commonwealth Bank network are always free, there is a massive $5 charge when you get money out at a Bankwest counter.
The two other major fees you should be aware of are for foreign transactions, which are charged at a competitive rate of 2.95%, and an overseas ATM access fee of $5 per transaction (even if you are just checking your balance).
Unfortunately most bank debit cards come with these fees, so the best option is to be aware of them and avoid making too many transactions when you are overseas.
This debit card account is a low cost, high reward option, largely thanks to the link with Student Edge.
Whether you are still at school, going to TAFE or studying at university, the benefits you can get from this debit card could make finances a lot easier to manage.
