Westpac is one of the top banks in Australia and the range of debit card options is designed to complement the services provided. There are five different everyday transaction and savings accounts that are eligible for Westpac MasterCard debit cards, and three home loan or investment account options if a redraw facility exists.
All of Westpac’s MasterCard debit cards allow cardholders to make purchases in Australia, overseas, online and over the phone at over 30 million locations worldwide. Other features that come with every debit card include:
Another very appealing feature of Westpac debit cards is their chargeback protection policy, which allows cardholders to reverse transactions where they have been overcharged or did not receive goods ordered.
This feature could be particularly useful for online shopping because it means cardholders will have protection against fraud as well as purchases that have not turned up.
Westpac Debit Card Fees
There are a number of different kinds of fees that can be charged when using a debit card, but the ones most common with banks are monthly fees and transaction fees.
The Westpac Choice account – come with a monthly fee of $5, which may be waived if monthly deposits are over $2000 or if you meet other criterias such as being a full time student, under 21, pensioner or recently moved to Australia.
With the savings accounts, transaction fees tend to be charged more often because of the nature of these accounts, but for everyday accounts there are often free transaction options.
The Choice account comes with unlimited free transactions in Australia and overseas transaction withdrawals are charged a flat rate of $5 per transaction, but this can be avoided if the money is withdrawn from a Global Alliance bank, including Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, Barclays Bank in the UK and many more that Westpac has listed on their website.
